Character building books help children to develop a clear set of values, principles and the positive behavior traits that will guide them for life. This process is best begun early. There are many different opinions about the best approach to character education. All these approaches, however, accept the importance of character building books for early childhood.
The Role of Parents in Character Development
Children see their parents as role models, especially as to their behavior and character development. Parents can provide their children with character-building books and advise them about the character traits they consider desirable. These character-building books help children to understand in a simple, yet effective way, with the help of examples. They also give guidance to the children, who may otherwise be exposed prematurely to behavior that opposes the values they consider desirable.
The Role of Teachers in Character Development
Teachers have considerable influence over the lives of children. They help children understand and develop positive values and character traits, both in school and in society. Young children tend to idealize their teachers, and to emulate their behavior. They often seek their advice on issues related to values and character. This is where teachers can help the children by providing character-building books for early childhood. Teachers can also help by building long-term relationships and introducing more and more kids to this kind of reading material.
Love-Hate Relationships
Children's relationships begin in infancy and are full of intense emotions. As they grow, their relationships can swing from extreme intimacy to cruelty. Character building books for early childhood help parents to understand their children's motives, and the meanings of their social behavior. Parents can gain an understanding about the differences between popularity and friendship, as well as the different approaches of boys and girls to commitment and intimacy.
Character Education for Kids
Huffman defines character as "a morality of the head, the heart and the hand." Character building books for early childhood emphasize the core character traits of honesty, responsibility, respect, perseverance, loyalty, generosity, humility, optimism, and open-mindedness. Our lives are too short to be spent just sitting around and doing nothing. We must give life our best and try to get the best from it.
Character education can be included in the curriculums of social studies, health and language arts for K-6 classrooms. For instance, character building books for early childhood can be used to help the children learn the importance of character, with the help of stories about the struggles and achievements of others.
